- the 20 October 2009 -Launching of the Digital Encyclopedia on the United Nations’ project
Within the framework of its mission relying on the promotion of the United Nations system, the Institute for Advanced Studies on the United Nations decided to launch a large-scale project to create the most complete and the biggest information source on the world Organization. This program targets a broad audience, such as the community of the researchers, diplomats, experts, journalists, students and every person interested in the United Nations.
The construction of such a project goes beyond the resolution of important stakes: the drafting of the contents and the collection of the documentary resources and the implementation of technological platforms and significant information.
To carry out successfully this project, a steering committee will have to organize and to control the contents of the Encyclopedia. The drafting of these contents will be shared among thematic working groups around the following issues:
- United Nations Organization,
- United Nations System,
- Developement,
- Humanitarian affairs,
- Peace and Security,
- International law,
- Human rights,
- Technology and architecture of the site
- And Documentary Resources.
Besides, personalities such as Gareth EVANS, former Foreign secretary of Australia, former president of International Crisis Group and President of the Commission of the United Nations on nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament, Paul-André WILTZER, the former French Minister of the cooperation and President of the French Agency of development, Robert McCorquodale, Director of International British Institute of and Comparative clause Law or still Habib OUANE, Director of the division Africa of UNCTAD, and Najat ROCHDI, Deputy director of the United Nations Development Programme, already have to agree to sièger within the working groups.
Ambitious and large-scale mission, the Communications and Information Department of Unesco, Telecom Paris Tech or still the United Nations University involve in it. We invite every expert or organization to participate or to support this program.
