/ PHILIPPE RYFMAN

Philippe Ryfman is Professor and associate researcher to the Department of Political Science of the Sorbonne, UFR of Political Science, Paris I university, as well as in the center of Political Researches of Sorbonne / Former Director and co-director of the Master's degree (political M2Pro science) " International Cooperation, Humanitarian aid and Development policies " ( M2P-CIAHPD) and of the MASTER DEGREE " Development, International Cooperation and Humanitarian aid " ( DCAH), he is since 2005 a Unit Director of NGO and Humanitarianism Department of the Master's degree. Lawyer at the Paris’ Bar / Expert-consultant with NGOs and with International Organizations. Member of the Orientation Board of the Emergency Humanitarian aid ( COAHU) to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (since March, 2004). Member (since June, 2003) of the Board of directors of the NGO Action Against Hunger-France ( ACF-F). Ex-administrator of the Institute of the Humanitarianism (1998/2002). Member of the Editorial committee of the Humanitarian Magazine.

He published numerous works and articles such as “NGOs”, Paris La Découverte , coll. Repères, n°386, 2004 ; " Governance practices and policies of NGOs " Vacarme magazine, winter 2005/2006.

He also participated to several collective Works (Under the direction of S. CHIFFOLEAU), Health policies under international influence, Africa, Middle East, with a contribution entitled: « A new shape of reorganization, or how NGOs succeed where States fail: the access to " essential medicines " for the populations of the South ", Paris, Maisonneuve and Larose, on 2005, coll. Orient-Mediterranée; (under the dir. of K. BLANCHET and B. MARTIN), Critic of the humanitarian reason. Dialogue between the French humanitarian workers and the Anglo-Saxon humanitarian workers, with an entitled contribution: " French NGOs: maturity crises and transformations ", Paris, Le Cavalier Bleu.

His research topics deal with particular various communities of NGOs from the North and South as well as International NGOs, their role in the international life, the humanitarian aid. He is a specialist of sociology in the non-governmental and associative life (origin, constitution, functioning system as NGO, notion of " Community of NGOs", governance, labeling, etc.). He also works on NGOs transnational issues, non-governmental diplomacy, as well as on diverse aspects of International Humanitarian law.
