François Grünewald

/ FRANÇOIS GRÜNEWALD

François Grünewald is engineer in agronomic sciences, specialized in rural economy. He has spent over twenty-five years in development, emergency and post- catastrophy reconstruction projects in Africa, Central Europe, Central America and Asia. He has worked for NGOs, United Nations agencies and the International Committee of the Red Cross. He is currently president of the French group URD (Emergency-Rehabilitation- Development), which is an independent research, evaluation and training institute. He participated in creating major projects such as the Quality Project ( http://www.qualityproject.org), the Global Study on consultation with and participation by beneficiaries and affected populations in the process of planning, managing, monitoring and evaluating humanitarian programmes » ( www.globalstudyparticipation.org).

François Grünewald is associate professor and director of a master’s programme on humanitarian affairs at the University of Paris XII. He is member of the French National Consultative Commission on Human Rights. Former president of the Commission “Crises” of HCCI, Mr. Grünewald carried out important evaluation work for France, the European Union and the UN. He was for instance team leader of the evaluation of the French response to the Tsunami, team leader of the IASC evaluation of the international response to the crisis in the Horn of Africa, team leader of the DFID UNICEF evaluation of the response to the Darfur Crisis.
