/ THE SITE

Hand the keys of the worldwide Organization

Le site de l'ONU

In the following fields, the Encyclopedia will present particular characteristics that will require important investments in time and work:

The metadata

A complex archiving system will facilitate navigation and interconnections, while making articles accessible from various manners: each document will be described by bibliographic information on its theme, discipline, temporal situation, geographical zone and the related UN organ.

Articles’ content

Multidisciplinary, the content will provide each problematic with several scientific views. The most recent studies on the UN produced by internationally acknowledged experts will represent the biggest part of the Encyclopedia. Also dedicated to an uninitiated audience, the Encyclopedia requires a vast popularization work: each article will have to be simple, not simplistic, complete and rigorous.

Relying on numerous transversal links between articles, navigation will be fluid and will focus on the new aspects of the topic and related issues. Besides, articles will be completed by illustrations and unpublished documents ensuring a pleasant navigation that could increase visitors’ interest towards the UN and the world stakes.

Multilingualism

Multilingualism constitutes an important aspect of the Encyclopedia. The United Nations bearing a universal vocation, the Encyclopedia will bear the mission to reduce the knowledge gaps existing about them.

In order to be accessible for the largest number, the site will be translated in seven languages: the six official languages of the United Nations (English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic and Russian) and Portuguese, 6th world language with its
260 millions locutors.

All the Encyclopedia’s content from navigation to articles and documents will be translated. Internet users will therefore access the same information, whatever their native language.

Architecture and technical development of the site

In order to provide an easy access website, the Encyclopedia will develop its own computer Tools, in particular in the field of archiving which conditions the access to articles.

New technologies will be elaborated to create a simple, efficient interface. An attractive design, a fluid navigation and a rapid screening of the content will encourage exploration and discovery around world challenges.
