It will cover the entire history of the UN system, its organization and structure, its mandates, its action and the progression of its biggest projects. It will deal with thematical issues such as humanitarian affairs, human rights, peace and security. Unique documentary resources on the UN will be available, under a written or audio-video form (testimonials of distinguished personalities, or daily actors, press articles, treaties, speeches, resolutions, charters, reports, conventions, summits summaries, documentary films…) or iconographic resources (caricatures, tables, maps, chronological elements, photos…). There will also be scientific contributions, correspondence excerpts, and actual facts.
The prototype
The website development and the complex technology required to set-up a simple and practical tool constitute an essential element of the program.
The site’s organization will be articulated around the following principles:
Open research by themes, key words, alphabetical classifications, chronological, geographical and by United Nations organs, associated with a clear arborescence, will guarantee an easy navigation process.
Numerous transversal links will allow going from an article to another, as well as an instructive, attractive and interesting consultation that will help to discover the most unknown aspects of the UN. The most innovative characteristics will be evoked through the “did you know?” points. The “related pages” will also allow to find rapidly and precisely the related themes and articles.
Updated regularly, the site will focus on the UN news, and will ensure the follow up of their missions and reforms: visitors will be able to stay informed of the evolution of the UN.
Fun and educative, le site will benefit from specificities that will constitute a major added value. Thus, interactive pages, a free user account, providing the visitor with an access to a folder in which he will save documents, an interactive widget, allowing to research on the Encyclopedia’s website, and a calendar stressing the major events in the UN system, will constitute major innovative assets.
The navigation tools and the site’s content – pages, articles and documents- will be entirely translated in seven languages in order to target a wider audience.
